Ten North Group and it’s affiliates, formerly Opa-locka Community Development Corporation, facilitate access to affordable housing and wealth-building opportunities for under-resourced communities. The organization takes a unique and successful approach to community development with its focus on real estate and the arts. As part of our work with the growing nonprofit, a renaming was required for expansion beyond Opa-locka while honoring the organization’s roots, as well as a new visual identity that would retain some of the former brand equity, include hints of real estate and African culture, and allow for extension of the identity into its affiliates.

The evolution of an iconic brand

Client

Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami

The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA NOMI) is known for presenting research-driven, thought-provoking exhibitions that feature under-explored art and artists from around the globe. The museum was looking to enhance its long-standing brand so that it may reestablish itself on the international art scene and have more flexibility in showcasing its programming to its target audiences and local community. A custom geometric logo design using its moniker “MOCA NOMI” was created to build on the equity of the nickname used by its patrons and to provide the foundation for a dynamic design system that would support the brand’s use across various formats and sub-brands. The graphic nature of the logo’s lettering translates to patterns and graphic embellishments that appear throughout the brand materials while a versatile color palette gives the museum the range it requires for everything from brand communications to children’s and adult programming. We also developed a new website experience that better highlighted event assets and their artwork collection while providing more intuitive access to important information for museum visitors and supporters.

As they navigated a growth phase combined with recent specialization in healthcare exclusively, they understood the critical importance of defining their brand clearly. It was also essential that their evolving brand captured their very unique culture and difference. Philanthropy Miami focuses on increasing organizations’ and individuals’ ability to drive social change through education and networking in Miami. We recently helped the organization to better define and articulate its purpose through a new identity, messaging, and marketing outreach. These involved critical content development and marketing, rebranding and re-positioning subprograms as well as a strategic website redesign and a targeted digital marketing campaign. We also work with them in the positioning, branding and marketing of their popular annual conference “Ignite” which successfully pivoted to a completely digital format in 2020.

From value to bespoke – the transition of a travel brand to connect to it’s new audience

Fly biz For Less, a value-oriented travel portal, approached us to help them reposition their brand to connect to their growing client base of business and first-class travelers more effectively. We began by aligning their internal perception with that of their discerning clients. We also renamed the company to FlyBiz Concierge to maximize the existing equity while better positioning the name to describe their bespoke services.

A highly customized outreach campaign helped to transition select existing clients and increase client acquisition. This campaign (digital, direct mail, direct contact) involved strategic positioning and messaging to reach the marketing-averse audience effectively. We also redesigned the online user experience to align with the simplified, direct access requirements of bespoke travel fulfillment which supported the level of service delivered. The resulting new client acquisition has been over 30%, along with a complete transition of selected existing client accounts. Successful branding involves looking from the outside in to understand how to connect authentically.
